History of Nippi is the History of Japanese Leather Industry

Tanning of hides to manufacture leather began during the Paleolithic Age.
In Japan, leather production began more than 1,500 years ago, however the history of the modern leather industry only started in early 20th century.
Nippi has led the Japanese leather industry since its foundation in 1907. Contributing to the Japanese leather industry, Nippi has extended its operations including in chemical and life science fields for half a century.

In 2007, Nippi-Fujita, Incorporated was established by reorganizing our leather division. Utilizing Nippi’s experience, accumulated over a century, Nippi-Fujita offers a wide selection of services from leather purchasing to product making.

Japan Institute of Leather Research (JILR), a physicochemical research institution, is a non-profit organization. Since our foundation in 1938, we have been supporting the industry’s quality control including the safety and comfort of leather products and collagen products.
